Sumr v2.40: social video, smart formats, and structured prompts
Sumr now extracts transcripts from Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook videos. Auto-detects recipes, lists, and events. Structured prompt pipeline and reliability fixes across the board.
Sumr v2.40 is out on the App Store.
This one is all about video beyond YouTube and smarter summarization. Share a TikTok, Instagram reel, or X video - Sumr pulls the transcript and summarizes it. The prompt pipeline got a full rebuild too.
Social media video summarization
Instagram, TikTok, X/Twitter, and Facebook videos are now supported via cloud transcript extraction (Supadata). Share a video link from any of these platforms and Sumr extracts the spoken content, same as YouTube.
TikTok short URLs (vm.tiktok.com) are resolved automatically - different short links to the same video deduplicate correctly. AI-generated titles fill in when social posts don’t have meaningful ones.
Content-type aware summarization
Sumr now auto-detects content types and adjusts the output format. Recipes get ingredient lists and steps. Event pages get dates and schedules. Listicles stay as lists instead of being flattened into paragraphs.
Structured prompt pipeline
The prompt system was rebuilt from monolithic strings into composable parts. Every summarization now includes structured frontmatter (URL, title, content type, source) so the model has full context. Follow-up questions use the same structured input as the initial summary.
System meta and system prompt are composed at runtime instead of being cached as a single blob. Stale local prompt defaults are auto-discarded when Remote Config updates.
